The Dallas Stars announced on Tuesday that they've agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension worth $67.6 million ($8.45 million AAV) with forward Roope Hintz.

"Roope is a dynamic two-way centerman who has proven to be one of the best at his position in the NHL," Stars general manager Jim Nill said.

He added, "He's developed into one of our most versatile players, making an impact on special teams and at even strength, and can be counted on by our coaching staff in every situation. We are fortunate to have him in Victory Green for an additional eight years and look forward to his continued growth as a player."

Hintz, 26, was drafted by the Stars in the second round (49th overall) back in 2015. In 261 career games, the Tampere native has 194 points (88 goals, 106 assists), 80 penalty minutes and is a plus-33. He's also added 25 points in 44 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The deal will kick in for the 2023-24 season and will see Hintz in Dallas until after the 2030-31 campaign. Hintz is currently signed longer than any player on the Stars' current roster, with defenceman Miro Heiskanen under contract until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season.
