Former NHL goaltender and Swedish National Team legend Tommy Salo is upset after being snubbed at an awards show in his home country. At a major hockey gala being held Thursday, one person will be awarded with Best Swedish Goaltender of All Time. Despite being a major factor in Sweden's first-even men's hockey gold medal at the Olympics (1994), and being with the team for seven medals at the World Hockey Championships (including gold), Salo isn't included in the list of finalists.

"I should have been top five. The merits speak for themselves," Salo told AftonBladet .
The five finalists are Henrik Lundqvist, Pekka Lindmark, Pelle Lindbergh, Leif Holmqvist and Lennart Häggroth. Salo said he did receive an invitation to the hockey gala, but he's not going.
"It feels more like a mockery that they invited me," said Salo.
"I guess that's the thanks...," said Salo, before trailing off.
As for who he thinks will win, Salo seemed to think Lundqvist is a slam dunk.
Lindbergh and Lindmark have won Olympic bronze. Häggroth was between the pipes when Sweden won silver in 1964. With all due respect, they don't have the resume that Salo has. While Salo didn't mention it, you have to wonder whether his conviction for drunk driving has something to do with it. In January of 2021, Salo was sentenced to two months in prison after being caught in August of the previous year behind the wheel with a blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit. Salo admitted to alcohol issues, but appears to have kicked the habit.
