The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly looking to clear a logjam by trading a forward as soon as possible. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, there are three likely names on the block, and Habs GM Kent Hughes has been reaching out to teams.

"The Habs have reached out to several clubs around the NHL trying to create a trade market for their glut of forwards," said LeBrun on TSN's Insider Trading. "Whether that's Evgenii Dadonov or Jonathan Drouin or Mike Hoffman and beyond, the Habs have too many guys up front.
"Certainly, Montreal is looking to make a move," LeBrun added.
The issue for the Habs is that neither of the names mentioned have much value at the moment. After coming over from Vegas in the offseason, Dadonov has had a very slow start and is currently on injured reserve. Drouin is in the final season of a six-year deal paying him $5.5 million per season. He has just two assists in 8 games. Hoffman is the only one of the three with another year left on his contract after this one. Despite being a very consistent goal scorer throughout his career, Hoffman is sputtering in 2022-23, with just one goal in 9 games. The bottom line is if Montreal wants to move one of these three, it will likely have to sweeten the deal with another asset to make it happen. All three have spent time as a healthy scratch this season.
