After leaving North America this summer to sign in the KHL, former Colorado Avalanche top defensive prospect Chris Bigras is a free agent, once again.

The 27-year-old has agreed to mutually terminate his contract with Kazakh-based KHL club, HC Barys Astana after only appearing in 23 games for them during the 2022-23 season.

In those 23 games, the Orillia (Ontario) native had one assist, 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-eight.

After being drafted 32nd overall by the Avalanche in 2013, Bigras impressed the organization in his first training camp and earned an entry-level contract before returning to the OHL. His offensive game continued to grow in the OHL and in his final year with the Owen Sound Attack, he put up 71 points in 62 games. His offensive game never transitioned with him over to professional hockey and he only appeared in 46 games in the NHL (all with Colorado).

It's unclear what will come next for Chris Bigras, but it's likely he will remain overseas and sign somewhere in Europe.
