With the Montreal Canadiens in the midst of a rebuild and turning to younger players to take the lead, Mike Hoffman is sticking out like a sore thumb. The 32-year-old, who makes $4.5 million a season, was signed by previous GM Marc Bergevin to spark a terrible powerplay and score 5-on-5 goals. In eight games so far in a season where the Canadiens are hoping Hoffman can showcase his skills to increase the likely hood of a trade at the deadline, he has just 1 goal and 1 assist. Even worse is the fact that it seems like Hoffman is barely trying. Many fans on Twitter have pointed out how bad he's looked, and it appears Hoffman is paying attention.

As pointed out by @HabsonReddit, an account that tweets content that has been posted to the Habs subreddit, Hoffman has been keeping an eye on at least some of the things that have been said about him. If you go to the "likes" section on his Twitter account, which is official, you can see that's he recently liked two tweets about him: one telling him to retire, and the other a meme that says "our expectations for you were low, but holy f--k!". Here are the recently taken screenshots

Hoffman has one more season after the current one left on his contract. I can't help but wonder if he'd be grateful for a change of scenery right now. Through eight games this season, Montreal hasn't been quite as bad as expected, sitting at 4-4-0. However, Hoffman looks like he's checked out completely. Even a penalty shot he took earlier this week seemed half-hearted at best.
