According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Minnesota Wild have placed veteran defenceman Andrej Sustr on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.

Sustr, 31, signed a one-year contract with the Wild on the opening day of free agency this summer but has yet to appear in a game for them this season.

The Plzen (Czechia) native returned to the NHL last season after spending the previous two seasons in the KHL with Kunlun Red Star. In 38 games between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks during the 2021-22 season, Sustr had six points (one goal, five assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-four.

In other waivers news, defenceman Michal Kempny has cleared unconditional waivers and now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Kempny signed with the Seattle Kraken this summer and was placed on waivers near the end of training camp. He cleared waivers and was subsequently assigned to the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the AHL. It's unclear if he will be going to Europe or will seek another opportunity in the NHL.
