Just a few months after saying the deal to bring a new hockey arena to Calgary to replace the Saddledome was dead, it appears talks will be resuming. In a news release, the City of Calgary and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) says they've agree to restart the failed talks, and will be working with three independent mediators in an attempt to get a deal done.

The Saddledome, home of the Calgary Flames, is the second oldest arena in the NHL behind Madison Square Garden. A recent report stated there are several issues with the building, including pieces of the roof falling, or ready to fall, off. The previous deal to replace the arena fell through after CSEC withdrew due to rising costs related to climate and infrastructure expenses.

"All parties share a collective desire to see a new event centre constructed in Calgary. We look forward to discussions with The City to see if we can find an acceptable path forward," said CSEC President and CEO John Bean in the release.

There is no official timeline for the project yet.

"The City and CSEC have agreed time is of the essence to reach a formal agreement on a new event centre, while ensuring they take the time necessary to reach an agreement that will meet (parties') needs," said the release.

Still, for fans who believe the Flames should have a new home, this is a great development. Calgary has played in the Saddledome for the past 39 years.
