Valeri Nichushkin of the Colorado Avalanche no longer has to worry about doping allegations hanging over his head. The Russian Hockey Federation has announced that the International Ice Hockey Federation has dropped its allegations aimed at Nichushkin dealing with a sample taken in 2013.

"This became possible after the results of additional testing by the Swiss Doping Laboratory," said Championat.com. "The IIHF has notified Nichushkin that all charges against the player have been dropped."

In November of 2021, the IIHF said a sample from Nichushkin taken in 2013 had been obtained by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) after a lab in Moscow had closed down. WADA reanalyzed the sample and said a banned substance had been detected. Whether that sample had been contaminated, produced a false-positive, was tampered with, etc., is not known as this time.

Nichushkin, who won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2021-22, denied any and all allegations of doping. If the allegations had been proven accurate, it would have impacted his participation in games at the international level only, unless the NHL decided to take subsequent measures on its own.

"The Russian Hockey Federation will be glad to see Valeri on the national team after it returns to the international arena," said the FHR.
