Bruce Boudreau today announced that Canucks' defenseman Tyler Myers will be out 2-4 weeks:

Myers is slated to skate on one of Vancouver's top-two defensive pairs, which could end up being a huge blow to the Canucks' fortunes early on. To make things worse, the other righty in Vancouver's top-four is Tucker Poolman, whose career was reportedly in jeopardy this summer.

Vancouver's injured list already contains forward Brock Boeser, Ilya Mikheyev, and Travis Dermott. Myers' addition spells trouble for the Canucks.

Right now, a less-than-100% Tucker Poolman, Luke Schenn, and rookie Jack Rathbone are holding down Vancouver's right side, and their left side does not exactly make opposing GM's envious. Don't get it twisted, Quinn Hughes is great. $7million Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Travis Dermott (once healthy), and Kyle Burroughs man the Canucks' other half. Not great.

Considering how expensive Vancouver's payroll is, the Canucks are a long-shot to make any real splashes in the Pacific Division, even with the great pieces they do have.

The Canucks have some certified ballers, but the depth of their team combined with their overall weakness on defense leave me incredibly bearish. Some models rate the Canucks quite highly, largely because of the goaltender, Demko.

Injuries plus a simply inadequate blue-line do not spell 'contender' to me, sorry Canucks fans.
