Late last night, a report broke detailing a flurry of accusations against Vancouver Canucks owner, Francesco Aquilini, including physical and psychological abuse.

The suit was filed by Aquilini's estranged ex-wife and the former couple's three children, each of whom denied having any contact with their father since the parents' divorce in 2013.

The NHL released a statement regarding Aquilini, an 18-year member of the league's owner's guild. Per the release, the league is taking a 'wait & see' approach, which is fairly standard operating procedure.

The release, per Darren Dreger, reads as follows:

«We are aware of the allegations that have been made in the Family Court proceeding in Vancouver and have been in touch with Mr. Aquilini and his lawyers regarding same. Clearly, the parties have been involved in a most contentious divorce. Mr. Aquilini has advised us that he categorically denies the allegations. We plan to continue to monitor the situation and, if necessary, will respond as we learn more as events unfold.»

Contentious is a very astute description of this particular series of events.

With Mr. Aquilini denying the accusations, surely more is to be made of the proceedings, which involve more than just the alleged abuse.

There is also a heavy emphasis on the child support payments Aquilini paid to his ex-wife and kids starting in 2013 all the way until September of 2021, when he stopped making the payments.

All three children are reportedly enrolled in university, so it is fairly common for cases like this to unfold once the children are grown. Still, the courts of British Columbia will determine what outcome is to be adjudicated.

More details are expected in the coming weeks, as this is a developing story.
