The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to open training camp tomorrow, but they'll be doing so without defenceman Timothy Liljegren, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.

Johnston says that Liljegren will miss the entirety of training camp with an unspecified injury and that more information should be released tomorrow.

"NEWS: Timothy Liljegren will miss #leafs training camp with an injury, per sources. The team isn't commenting on the situation today but says it will address Liljegren's status in more detail when camp opens tomorrow." Johnston said.

With Liljegren injured, the Maple Leafs have a few options to replace him on their roster. This summer, General Manager Kyle Dubas signed Jordie Benn and Victor Mete for depth, so it's likely one of them would play in Liljegren absence.

In 61 games for the Maple Leafs last season, the Kristianstad (Sweden) native had 23 points (five goals, 18 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-15.

In addition to Liljegren, the Maple Leafs are set to be without forward Pierre Engvall for the start of traning camp due to an injury, according to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff.

"#Leafs injury news: sources say forward Pierre Engvall will be out for the start of training camp. Team is awaiting re-evaluation to set a timeline.

It's not out of the question Engvall is ready to begin regular season. But it's possible (likely?) that he misses a chunk of time." Seravalli said.

Engvall, 26, had a career-year in 2021-22, putting up 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists), 30 penalty minutes and was a plus-13. He added three assists in seven games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
