Defenceman Nils Lundkvist has been granted his wish. Around three days ago, it was revealed that Lundkvist had requested a trade from the New York Rangers, and had informed the team he wouldn't be attending training camp. The 22-year-old is now a member of the Dallas Stars. The return is a 1st round pick in 2023, and another conditional pick.

Lundkvist asked for the trade to get more playing time in the NHL. He came over from Sweden last season, but spent the majority of it with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. He got 25 games with the Rangers, putting up a goal and 3 assists.

This was a gamble on the part of Lundkvist. Knowing he likely wouldn't get a full time spot with the Blueshirts, he's now going to a team where there is plenty of room to slot in. That all depends, of course, on whether he can actually earn the spot and keep it.
