Mathieu Perrault recently announced his plans to retire from the NHL after 13 seasons, and he was fortunate enough to end his career with his hometown club in the Montreal Canadiens. While there, he got to see firsthand the type of leadership qualities possessed by Nick Suzuki.

Perrault joined Jean-Charles Lajoie of BPM Sports -- an all-French radio program -- and he championed the idea of Nick Suzuki as the Habs' captain.

The last captain of the Habs was Shea Weber, who was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, so the team has a vacancy. Nick Suzuki is the logical choice, after all he has been dubbed the closest living comparable to Patrice Bergeron.

This is a huge compliment from Perrault. If anyone understands the magnitude of the decision -- Montreal naming a captain -- it is Perrault, the lifelong Habs fan. Brendan Gallagher and maybe Joel Edmundson make sense too, but for the long-term Suzuki is the guy, no question.
