Two different Metropolitan Division teams have reportedly been in contact with Vancouver GM Patrik Allvin over a possible Miller trade. Per Vancouver Hockey Now, one of those teams is the Carolina Hurricanes, who recently learned that newly acquired winger Max Pacioretty will be out until after Christmas with a torn Achilles' tear.
The Hurricanes definitely have the prospects and draft capital to facilitate a trade there, though I do question any long-term fit. Carolina is notoriously frugal in contract talks, and Miller reasonably wants top money. If they do make a move for him, it is likely a pure rental.
Also mentioned by VHN is the New Jersey Devils, who also possess a hefty crop of trade chips to acquire Miller, and they could certainly offer him a lucrative deal. I could see a real fit here. Miller is a win-now player, and New Jersey is a win-now team. Consider a player such as Damon Severson a viable return, although the Devils would need a tremendous amount of faith in either Simon Nemec -- their #2 overall pick this summer -- or Reilly Walsh, an AHL standout for Utica in '21-22.
Miller would be an obvious fit for both teams, offering center and wing versatility. He makes more long-term sense for a team like the Devils, but it is anyone's guess where he truly ends up.
