Earlier in the 2021-22 season, there was a kerfuffle involving Ottawa's Brady Tkachuk and Los Angeles Kings F Brendan Lemieux in which Brady Tkachuk alleged that the latter bit his hand. He even displayed the bite marks left on his hand for good measure. Most of the hockey world jumped to Tkachuk's side, as biting is pretty much non-grata, but we never really heard Lemieux's (son of Claude) side of things.

Brendan Lemieux appeared on Dropping the Gloves with retired NHL enforcer John Scott and offered his side of the story:

Lemieux alleged that Tkachuk gouged his eye out, which is equally egregious as biting as far as a sanctioned fight goes. Whether it's a hockey fight or a UFC fight, there are rules. Biting, eye gouging, kicking in the private parts, etc. are not acceptable maneuvers. Ipso facto, as far as 'Pep' was concerned, all bets were off.

Tkachuk gave an infamous post-game speech about Lemieux, saying his own teammates didn't even like him, to which a slew of Kings' players responded by showcasing their support for their teammate. All in all, it was a funny exchange to say the least.

I don't know if that wholly excuses the bite, but if someone is gouging your eye out he is correct in that, you don't have much choice. It is about survival at that point, and anything goes. At least, that is how your brain would rationalize going about it.

The LA Kings host the Ottawa Senators on November 27th, so that will be a game to mark down, as tensions will no doubt be high. I do not think you can consider Ottawa and L.A. rivals, but there is no question two sides have bad blood.
