After a very quiet off-season, New York Islanders General Manager Lou Lamoriello is finally getting some business done.

According to Dan Milstein (his agent) and Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the New York Islanders have re-signed restricted free agent defenceman Alexander Romanov to a three-year contract worth $7.5 million ($2.5 million AAV).

Romanov, 22, was traded to the Islanders in July from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for the thirteenth overall pick in this year's draft. Montreal then flipped that pick, along with a third round pick, to the Chicago Blackhawks for Kirby Dach.

The Moscow native was drafted by Montreal in the second round in 2018 and spent two seasons with them. In 79 games this past season, Romanov put up thirteen points (three goals, ten assists), 53 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
