Team Canada won the 2022 World Junior Championship last night in insanely dramatic fashion after a hard fought battle against Finland. Holding a 2-0 lead for over 39 minutes of play, Canada's grip on the match slipped badly, especially in the latter half of the third period.

Canada's powerplay went 0-for-8 in the gold medal game, turning what should have been a lopsided game into a suddenly tied match headed for overtime. The story of the night narrowly avoided heartbreak -- Finland defeating Canada on their home ice in comeback fashion -- when captain Mason McTavish stopped an absolutely certain goal with a miraculously heroic play, which led to the eventual game-winner. It was chaos:

That has to be one of the most impressive plays I have ever seen. What composure by Canada's captain, what a display of poise and leadership. Simply sensational. Look at the slow-mo side angle:

The athleticism required to make that play is absurd, and the timing, the pressure, everything about this moment is incredible. An all-time hockey memory.

When McTavish gave his post-game interview, he almost let an F-bomb loose but kept it cool and family friendly. The maturity with which he carries himself is seriously admirable, he truly was a man among boys in this tournament. His teammate Connor Bedard was slightly less composed in his interview, which should accompany McTavish's highlight in hockey lore, in my humble opinion:

Hopefully, Bedard changed his underwear before the celebratory locker room beer showers -- I mean soda showers. What a magical night of hockey, and say what you will about it, hosting the World Juniors in the summer was awesome. Absent was some of the usual allure, you can't ignore that, but it was still great to watch World Junior hockey in shorts. Very cool.
