A while back, I ran a Twitter poll posing the question: is Chuck Fletcher the worst GM in the NHL?

726 voters participated, 72.6% of whom believe that Fletcher is indeed the worst GM in the NHL.

The Flyers finished 28th in the NHL in '21-22 and had minimal cap space to improve their team this summer. For any GM in the league, that is absolutely unacceptable.

As a result, the team failed to land F Johnny Gaudreau, which by itself is not wholly egregious. But they couldn't even send an offer. To fans of this team, failing to assemble any offer whatsoever to Gaudreau, who is arguably the best hockey player from the area, is despicable.

Fletcher makes one poor decision after another and has largely contributed to the implosion of the Philadelphia Flyers. You know it, I know it, fans know it, and Johnny Gaudreau apparently knows it too:

This fan brought a sign that reads, 'Fire Chuck Fletcher,' and had it autographed by the now Columbus Blue Jacket. Just a quiet, classy way of saying Fletcher is absolutely brutal at his job. Say what you will about Johnny Gaudreau; all class.

In reality, the chances that the Flyers field a competitive group in 2022-23 remain very low, regardless of who their head coach is -- although, I really, really like the Tortorella hire. But the team is virtually the same one that finished bottom-five last season, their backup goaltender was detained by the Russian military, and none of their prospects jump out as job-savers for Fletcher. As such, I don't see Fletcher making it another year, and I think major changes sit over the horizon for Flyers' organization.
