The Boston Bruins made some noise on Monday morning, first by announcing the re-signing of captain Patrice Bergeron, a move many were expecting for the past couple of months.

A couple hours after that signing was made official, the Bruins announced that they've brought back veteran forward David Krejci on a one-year contract for the 2022-23 season. The contract has a base salary of $1 million, with another $2 million in performance bonuses.

Krejci, 36, spent the first fifteen seasons of his career in the NHL with Boston after they drafted him in the second round in 2004. The Sternberk native left Boston as a free agent last summer to play in the Czech Extraliga with HC Olomouc.

In 51 regular season games last year, Krejci tallied 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-two. He went on to add five points in five playoff games.

Krejci also represented Czechia at the 2022 Winter Olympics and World Hockey Championship, winning the bronze medal in the latter.

The signings of Bergeron and Krejci on Monday make it seem like the Bruins are trying to make one last push towards a Stanley Cup championship with their current core. It will be interesting to see what roles those two play going into the season. Bergeron will likely be the first-line center, while Krejci could play a smaller role on the third line.
