After a long, 15 season professional hockey career, Rich Clune's retirement was announced by the Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Clune, 35, played in 139 NHL games for the LA Kings, Nashville Predators, and Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring 22 points and racking up 327 PIMs. In 593 AHL games with the Iowa Stars, Milwaukee Admirals, and Toronto Marlies, Clune totaled 151 points and an astounding 1,616 PIMs.

"Rich is in a class of his own when reflecting on the impact he has made on the Toronto Marlies,» said Ryan Hardy, Maple Leafs Assistant General Manager, Minor League Operations. «He is celebrated by all those who played and worked with him for the professionalism he exhibited day in and day out, the contagious energy that extended from the gym to the ice and the compassion he demonstrated for his teammates and all members of this club. We're thrilled to have him join the player development staff and to continue delivering his invaluable support and guidance within our organization.»

A Toronto-native, Clune will remain on the Maple Leafs' player development staff, a trademark of the organization; promoting retired players into roles with the organization. A creative tactic that has proven effective in retaining the services of older players on low cap hits. A maneuver birthed out of necessity for the NHL club in Toronto, having such a tightly packed payroll under the league's salary cap.

Congratulations to Rich Clune on a long, eventful career. In addition to his work on the ice, Clune has also taken acting classes & starred in two short films. Between his new role in the Maple Leafs' player development department & his interests in acting, he will have lots to keep busy with post-retirement.
