According to TSN's Ryan Rishaug, the Edmonton Oilers have re-signed Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year, $6.2 million contract that will carry an average annual value of $3.1 million.

This signing means that the Oilers will avoid going to arbitration with Yamamoto, as the 23-year-old had filed to do so weeks ago. He is coming off of a solid 2021-22 season in which he scored 20 goals and 41 points in 81 games while mainly playing alongside Leon Draisaitl. He continued his productivity in the postseason, notching two goals and seven points in 14 outings.

While Yamamoto still needs to work on his consistency, he has shown glimpses of the player he has the potential to become. The 2017 first-round pick is hard on pucks and isn't shy to engage in battles along the boards despite his small five-foot-eight, 153-pound frame. Expect to see similar, if not better numbers from the young winger in 2022-23.
