It is official, the New Jersey Devils announce the signing of Jesper Bratt to a one-year, $5.45 million contract.

Bratt will be a restricted free agent next summer, giving New Jersey one last year of control before becoming eligible for UFA status. The 24-year old Swede was a sixth-round pick who blew up big-time in 2021-22 with 73 points in 76 games for the Devils. While GM Tom Fitzgerald held off the big contract to see if Bratt can duplicate the production, he probably should have just locked up Bratt long term.

This kid is very, very underrated. He is an expert-level play driver, one of the craftiest skaters in the NHL, and it is not every day a sixth-round pick buds into a star contributor. Alongside Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier & the rest of the young, promising core of Devils' forwards, Jesper Bratt could quietly develop into one of the NHL's most dangerous forwards. Don't believe me?
