The Canadiens have signed the second of their two first-round picks from the 2022 NHL Entry Draft on Thursday. The team announced that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with forward Filip Mesar.

Mesar, 18, was selected with the 26th overall pick in the first-round last week, following his childhood friend Juraj Slafkovsky, who was taken first overall by the Canadiens.

The Kezmarok (Slovakia) native spent the 2021-22 season in the Slovak Extraliga with HK Poprad. In 37 games with HK Poprad, Mesar had sixteen points (eight goals, eight assists), eight penalty minutes and was a minus-four. He went on to add four points in six playoff games.

It's unclear where Mesar may play next season, but he does have plenty of options. He could return to HK Poprad, the Canadiens could have him play in Laval or he could play in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers, who selected him ninth overall in the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
