The Detroit Red Wings announced on Thursday that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $750,000 with free agent defenceman Mark Pysyk.

Pysyk, 30, was a first round pick (23rd overall) by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the first four seasons of his NHL career with the Sabres and spent the next four with the Florida Panthers. In 2020, he signed as a free agent with the Dallas Stars and last summer signed a one-year contract to return to the Buffalo Sabres.

In 68 games with the Sabres during the 2021-22 season, the Sherwood Park (Alberta) native had twelve points (three goals, six assists), sixteen penalty minutes and was a minus-four.

Pysyk will look to battle for a spot on the bottom pair for the Red Wings, but will have some tough competition with Jordan Oesterle, Gustav Lindstrom and possibly Simon Edvinsson.
