The Florida Panthers announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $750,000 with unrestricted free agent forward Rudolfs Balcers.

"Rudolfs is a hard-working playmaker who competes with pace and skill," said Panthers General Manager Bill Zito. "His energy and competitiveness will complement our lineup well."

Balcers, 25, was placed on unconditional waivers by the San Jose Sharks earlier this week for the purpose of a contract buyout. He cleared waivers the next day and had his contract bought out, making him an unrestricted free agent.

In 61 games this season with the Sharks, the Liepaja (Latvia) native set career-highs in goals (11), assists (12) and points (23), while adding 20 penalty minutes and was a minus-three.
