The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Tuesday that they've promoted Women's hockey great and Hall of Famer Hayley Wickenheiser to the role of Assistant General Manager.

The four-time Olympic gold medalist joined the Maple Leafs in 2018 as Assistant Director of Player Development before being promoted to Senior Director of Player Development last year.

Additionally, Ryan Hardy and Darryl Metcalf have also been promoted to Assistant General Manager. Hardy has been with the Maple Leafs since last year when he was brought in as Senior Director of Minor League Operations.

As for Darryl Metcalf, he was hired by the Maple Leafs in 2014 and has held three different roles with the team, Analyst with the Hockey Research and Development department, Director of Hockey Research and Special Assistant to the General Manager.

Former NHLer Curtis Sanford has been hired by the Maple Leafs to be their new goaltending coach after that role was vacant for a month due to the team parting ways with Steve Briere. Briere was hired on Tuesday by the Seattle Kraken.
