According to well known NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils are believed to be the frontrunners to land goaltender Jack Campbell in free agency.

Campbell, 30, appears to have priced himself out of the Toronto Maple Leafs' organization after an impressive 2021-22 campaign that saw him go 31-9-6 in 49 appearances with a 2.64 goals against average along with a .914 save percentage. It is believed that he could receive as much as $5 million annually on the open market.

Prior to 2021-22, Campbell had never appeared in more than 31 games in a single NHL season, making him a risky bet for teams. That said, the Oilers are in need of a new starting netminder as Mike Smith will be placed on long-term injured reserve for the remainder of his contract, and Mackenzie Blackwood has struggled with consistency over the past few seasons for the Devils.
