The Nashville Predators have traded F Mathieu Oliver to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 4th round pick (no. 122), previously acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs:

Mathieu Oliver, 25, has 7 points & 88 PIMs in 48 NHL matches with the Predators. More of a bottom-six, grinding forward, Oliver will add grit to the Blue Jackets' young group. While the Predators net a fourth a sub-replacement forward, so good for them. It does seem like a small overpayment, as the Blue Jackets are now without a pick in rounds 4, 5 & 6. Even with four picks in the first three rounds, the Blue Jackets don't exactly sit in a position of organizational strength.

Columbus finished 21st in the NHL in points, and aside from strong finishing percentage did not have a great season. According to Elite Prospects, Columbus has the 16th ranked prospect system. And per CapFriendly, they have $20 million in cap space with RFA's Patrik Laine, Adam Boqvist, Nick Blankenburg, and Emil Bemstrom each needing a contract. So this trade is slightly puzzling from the Blue Jackets' perspective, but it is still a minor deal for both sides.
