Alex Ovechkin signs one-game contract with Russian soccer team

NHL Superstar Alexander Ovechkin has never hidden his love of the game of soccer. The Great 8 is actually part owner of the National Women's Soccer League's the Washington Spirit. Ovi's taking his love of the sport a bit further this summer, signing a one game contract with a Russian soccer team for a friendly match.

Sport24.ru reports Ovechkin has a deal with FC Dynamo Moscow, his hometown club, that will see him take to the pitch for a friendly against FC Amkal. Both teams complete in the Russia Premier Football League. No word yet on what position Ovechkin will be playing. The game is slated to take place Saturday, January 25th.

Interestingly enough, Ovechkin's father Mikhail was a former soccer player. In fact, Ovi's mother, an Olympic gold medal winning basketball player, has stated she and Mikhail met by chance at FC Dynamo Moscow's stadium all the way back in 1968.
