The Chicago Blackhawks have found their next head coach. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Blackhawks are set to name Montreal Canadiens assistant coach Luke Richardson as their new bench boss.

"Hearing Luke Richardson will be the next head coach of the Chicago #Blackhawks.

Sources say Richardson and the Hawks are putting the final touches on a contract.

Quite the resume for Richardson, who played 1400+ NHL games, 8 years as NHL assistant, 4 years as AHL head coach." Seravalli said in a tweet.

Richardson now becomes the third head coach Chicago has had in just under eight months. On November 6th, Jeremy Colliton was fired after the Blackhawks had a terrible 1-9-2 start to the 2021-22 season. Derek King was brought up from the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs and named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Richardson, 53, has spent parts of nine seasons as an assistant coach in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders and Montreal Canadiens. He also spent four seasons as the head coach of the Binghamton Senators, helping them reach the Calder Cup Playoffs twice.

With the Ottawa native now leaving the Canadiens, this opens up a spot on Martin St. Louis' staff. It will be interesting to see who the Canadiens go with to fill that vacancy, whether it be adding from within or through an external search.
