According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Nashville Predators are looking at options to replace pending unrestricted free agent forward Filip Forsberg as the two sides are far apart in contract negotiations.

"More than six weeks later, Forsberg and the Predators are no closer on a new long-term contract extension that would keep him in the Music City. The two sides have made little progress, according to sources, and remain far apart on both dollars and the type of contract structure he'd prefer to stay a Pred." Seravalli said.

He added, "Sources indicate the Predators are cognizant of that reality and are beginning to examine alternative options in an attempt to replace Forsberg – whether it's through the trade market or in free agency."

On Thursday morning, Predators general manager David Poile told the media that the team has offered Forsberg an eight-year contract, but didn't mention a dollar figure. Poile added that the team and Forsberg's camp remain in contact with free agency less than three weeks away.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career with the Nashville Predators after they acquired him from the Washington Capitals in 2013. Forsberg, a native of Ostervala (Sweden), currently sits first all-time for goals in Predators franchise history with 220 and fourth in points with 469.

Losing a player like Forsberg would be devastating for the Preds. There will be options in free agency for them and on the trade market, but it will be hard to replace what Forsberg meant to the Predators and City of Nashville.
