Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff today reported that Reilly Smith will be re-signing with the Vegas Golden Knights to a contract structured something like 3 x $5 million, but until VGK sorts out their salary cap situation, it is a 'handshake' deal.

Per CapFriendly, Vegas is still -$2 million in the hole, which illuminates their cap struggles. The acquisition of Shea Weber's contract (LTIR) offers them significant relief, as Evgenii Dadonov's $5 million comes off the books. However, much work is still to be done. It is likely that William Karlsson, who has a modified no-trade clause, gets moved over the summer. Karlsson scored only 12 goals in '21-22, yet he makes $5.9 million. Money the Golden Knights can hardly afford to spend for that type of production.

The Golden Knights, as per usual, will be an interesting team to watch this summer & into the 2022-23 season. With Bruce Cassidy manning the bench, star C Jack Eichel in his first full season since '19-20, & the absolute gongshow that is their front office, 2022-23 will be an eventful one in Las Vegas.
