After much ado, the Senators have reached a deal with the National Capital Commission to construct a new entertainment venue in downtown Ottawa, including a new NHL arena:

This comes after years of delegations between the city, the Senators, and various contractors to reach a deal. Following the passing of Sens' owner Eugene Melnyk, a deal has been struck. Some speculate that this news may result in the Senators being sold, although nothing official has been released on that front. A deal of this size would add a fair bit of value to the transaction, though.

Per the NCC twitter thread, they are seeking to sign a long-term lease agreement by the fall of 2023, so there is much work to be done. The Senators have struggled to fill their current arena in Kanata, ON, and their team has been a basement dweller for far too long & only have one season of not in the past decade; 2016-17's ECF run where they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime of Game 7. So hopefully this is a turning point for the club.
