Kenan Thompson hosted the 2022 NHL Awards on Tuesday night after previously hosting the last live edition of the show three years ago. The award-winning comedian and actor returned, and of course, he put on a great show.

The final award to be announced during the show was the Hart Memorial Trophy which ended up going to Leafs superstar forward Auston Matthews. This was his second award of the evening after also winning the Ted Lindsay Award. Matthews gave a speech dedicating the award to his father, and Thompson returned to conclude the show.

During his closing, he cracked a joke that is sure to sting Matthews and his teammates as well as upset Leafs fans.

"Congrats to Auston Matthews, it's nice to see the Leafs winning something in June."

Thompson's joke immediately went viral on social media after he said it, and it will surely enrage Leafs faithful, but it sure is funny to the rest of the NHL nonetheless.
