According to NHL Insider Kevin Weekes, if Edmonton wants to keep Kane, the negotiations start in the $7 million range. Anywhere else, and they start at $8 million.
It's a hefty price tag, for sure. But Kane has shown he can put up big numbers at important times. He's consistent and plays a gritty game, something coaches throughout the league adore. If that's what Kane's looking for, chances are he'll find it from someone. If Holland doesn't have a deal in place for Kane when free agency opens, chances are he'll have some tough competition.
