The Detroit Red Wings have been searching for their next head coach after general manager Steve Yzerman told Jeff Blashill that he wouldn't be brought back for the 2022-23 season.

This will be Yzerman's first coaching search as the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, a role he was named to in April of 2019. The former Red Wings captain has plenty of quality options to chose from this summer, but according to Vegas oddsmaker BetOnline, his ex-teammate Sergei Fedorov is the favourite to land the position at +350.

Other coaches named in BetOnline's odds are Pete DeBoer (+400), Bruce Cassidy (+450), Barry Trotz (+600), Rikard Gronberg (+600), among others.

Fedorov, 52, spent thirteen seasons with the Detroit Red Wings from 1990 to 2003, winning the Stanley Cup three times in 1997, 1998 and 2002. In 2015, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Pskov native was named head coach of CSKA Moscow prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. Fedorov led them to a Gagarin Cup championship and was named KHL Coach of the Year.
