After a year of playing back home in Russia, Nikita Gusev will wait before signing a contract with a KHL team. According to an interview of his agent by Sport24.ru, the 29-year-old is really hoping to come back to the NHL in 2022-23.

"Nikita really has such a desire," said Yuri Nikolaev.

Gusev has played a total of 97 regular season games in the NHL, and another eight in the playoffs. He had a great first season in North America with the New Jersey Devils, netting 13 goals and 44 points in 66 games. But, it all seemed to go downhill quickly after that. He would end up singing a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers as a free agent in April of 2021, but played in just 11 games with the team, recording two goals and five points. He signed a professional tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs for 2021-22, but failed to make the team out of training camp. He then went back to Russia to play for SKA Saint Petersburg.

Gusev is represented by the same agent who just got Alexander Radulov a new deal in the KHL with Ak Bars Kazan. The contract is one of the richest in the league.
