The International Ice Hockey Federation's Disciplinary Panel announced on Wednesday that Finnish forward Saku Maenalanen one game for boarding American defenceman Jaycob Megna during Monday's game.

The incident occurred with less fifteen seconds remaining in the second period on Monday. Megna and Maenalanen were skating through the neutral zone and when the American is facing the boards, the Finn hits him from behind.

"Based on all facts ascertained, the Disciplinary Panel determined that because Maenalanen was fully aware of Megna's close proximity to the boards – and that there would be a high degree of force when bodychecking Megna as a result of the high speed at which he was traveling – Maenalanen's actions recklessly endangered the safety of Megna, thereby violating IIHF Official Rule 41 – Boarding. The Disciplinary Panel firmly believes that the Player's action of bodychecking Megna could have been initiated differently and with much less force," the IIHF's statement said.

Maenalanen will now miss Wednesday's clash with their rival, Sweden, and will be eligible to return to Finland's lineup on Friday against Great Britain.
