With Doug Wilson recently stepping down, the San Jose Sharks are searching for a new general manager, and one name in particular is generating a fair bit of buzz right now.

According to Arizona Coyotes reporter Craig Morgan, that name is Ray Whitney. For those unaware, Whitney enjoyed a lengthy 1330-game playing career, one in which he accumulated 385 goals and 1064 points. The first 200 of those 1330 games came as a member of the Sharks, whom he was drafted 23rd overall by back in 1991.

Since retiring, Whitney has spent time as a scout for the Carolina Hurricanes, and currently holds a role with the NHL's Department of Player Safety. If he does indeed end up being the man to get the job, he has his work cut out for him. Not only did the Sharks miss the playoffs by a long shot this season, but they have several lucrative contracts to aging veterans that still have plenty of term left, which has many believing their struggles could continue over the next few years.
