The Anaheim Ducks are set to miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season and despite that, it appears that the team will be retaining head coach Dallas Eakins, according to Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register.

"The Ducks are expected to retain Dallas Eakins as their coach for at least a fourth season, an NHL source said. A statement on Eakins' future is anticipated later this week from General Manager Pat Verbeek, who hasn't been with the team to start its four-game trip," Teaford said.

Eakins is set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, but Teaford added that it's unclear if the team will give him an option for a fourth year, or if it will be a new contract for next season and potentially beyond.

The 55-year-old was named head coach of the Anaheim Ducks prior to the start of the 2019-20 season. Before the 2019-20 campaign, Eakins spent four seasons as the bench boss of Anaheim's American Hockey League affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.

With the Ducks entering a new phase, with a new general manager in Pat Verbeek, and a core that features Trevor Zegras, Jamie Drysdale, Troy Terry, among others, it may be a smart move to keep Eakins around as their head coach. He knows several of the players well enough from coaching and developing them in San Diego, and his system appeared to work well for the Ducks at times throughout the 2021-22 season.
