2021 first overall pick Owen Power signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Friday afternoon, and he's set to make his National Hockey League debut on Tuesday night in his hometown against the Maple Leafs.

Power spoke to TSN about his upcoming debut and said, "I think it's extremely special. Anyone's NHL debut is a really special moment, but to be able to have it in my hometown with all my family here, I think just makes it that much better."

He added, "I think just go out there and play my game. Like I said, I know it's gonna be an adjustment, but I don't think I need to change the way that I play. I think I'll adjust on the fly and just go out there, play my game, and have fun."

The 19-year-old has had a whirlwind last eleven months. In May 2021, he was selected to represent Canada at the IIHF Men's World Hockey Championship. Two months later, the Sabres selected him with the first overall pick. In the Fall, he returned to the University of Michigan for his sophomore season. Then in December, Power was named to Canada's World Junior roster, but the tournament was cut short due to COVID-19.

With the NHL in the midst of a big COVID-19 pandemic, they opted not to go to the Olympics and roughly seven weeks later, Power represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing (China).

Power will now add an NHL debut to an already crazy eleven months, and he's going to be a very important piece to the Sabres blueline for a long time.
