After posting dominant numbers this season, Minnesota State Maverick Dryden McKay is the 2021-22 Hobey Baker Winner. The award crowns the best player in college hockey. He is the first Maverick to win the award & is the first goalie to win the accolade since Ryan Miller did it for the Michigan State Spartans in 2001.

This one drew a little bit of controversy, as Buffalo Sabres prospect G Devon Levi won the NCAA's Mike Richter award for best goalie.

So Levi wins best goalie, while McKay (also a goalie) wins best player? I don't know, NCAA loves to do things in a wacky manner I guess?

Anyway, McKay has outstanding numbers in all four NCAA seasons with the Mavericks & is a pending free agent. In 139 NCAA contests, here are his stats: 1.45 GAA & .938SV% with 26 shutouts. Pretty darn good.

It is incredibly difficult to reason why no NHL team drafted the newly christened Hobey Baker winner. There will probably be a long list of NHL suitors looking to sign the netminder after the National Championship match against the Denver University Pioneers tomorrow (Saturday Night).

Which team do you think he will sign with?
