After nearly two years between NHL games, Corey Schneider was recently called up by the Islanders on an emergency basis; G Ilya Sorokin fell to injury.

It was uncertain what role Schneider would play since his last stint did not go so well. However, with the Islanders having 3 games in 4 nights it became necessary after Semyon Varlamov played back-to-back Thursday/Friday. It felt right that he start against the Devils.

Corey Schneider has had a low-key great career. Despite being on a middling-to-bad team in NJ, he generally managed to hold up his end of the bargain. 2.43 GAA & .918 SV%. Those don't look great, but those totals are seriously weighted downward due to his final seasons as an NHL regular. The decline was rapid, indeed.

The Devils suffered consecutive losses most would consider humiliating, embarrassing, what have you. An 8-1 loss to the Bruins followed by a forfeited 4-goal 3rd period lead to the Florida Panthers. Devils fans are in absolute shambles right now.

JG Pageau scored a hat-trick in this one as well. During the celebratory window, he performed one of the smoothest maneuvers I think I've ever seen. Check this out:
