The person at the centre of allegations made by Egypt Ice Hockey has decided to respond to the accusations that he scammed the organization out of $2000. This started with a post on Reddit by EIH that an "influencer" had been paid $2000 to fly to Egypt with a film crew to that and shoot a documentary on a hockey tournament and on how the sport is growing there. EIH claimed the influencer, who was never named, took the $2000, but never showed up. The organization claimed it tried several times to contact him to to get the money back but was unsuccessful.

After seeing the post, Chris Kibui, the founder of Hockey Tutorial, decided to respond to give his side of the story, even though he was not named by Egypt Ice Hockey. He posted an almost 10 minute long video to his YouTube page where he gave his side of the circumstances involving the $2000.

According to Kibui, the money was for plane tickets from Britain to Egypt for him and his film crew. However, before boarding the flight in October of last year, he had to undergo a test for COVID-19. Kibui says he tested positive, which meant he and the film crew had to isolate, causing them to miss the flight. Kibui insists he informed Hockey Egypt of this, even sending them a PDF copy of his positive test.

Kibui went on to explain that trying to get the money back from the airline company for the tickets was extremely difficult, and they eventually received a credit note for later flights. Rather than seeing Hockey Egypt lose that money, he says he and his film crew decided to pay them back out of their own pockets. He was given an account number for a wire transfer, which turned out to be incorrect. That money was held in limbo for a certain amount of time before it could be accessed again. Kibui states, at this point, he was travelling again filming more hockey-related documentaries. He agreed to use a payment app to return the $2000. He says the bank he had to use did not have international banking, and he had to wait until he got home to make the transfer, which took some time. He then had to transfer his personal account to a business one in order to do everything properly, which took more time.

All that said, Kibui insists the payment was already processed when Egypt Ice Hockey made the accusations that he scammed them. In his video, he provides snippets of documentation to back that up. He also says he received confirmation from an official with Egypt Ice Hockey that a payment had been submitted to them. Kibui has several videos on his YouTube account that he's done with hockey organizations in Finland, Kenya, Ireland and other places around the world. He said it was never really about the money, but about growing the sport of hockey. He says Egypt Ice Hockey never mentioned in their initial release of information that he couldn't fly there due to COVID, nor was there any mention that a refund had been submitted.
