After a dominant first 30 minutes of play, the Calgary Flames found themselves up on the San Jose Sharks 3-1. Now at this point you might expect that score to hold steady under Darryl Sutter's stingy defense backed by goalie Jacob Markstrom. That was not the case in this one, as the Sharks rallied for three goals in the final 23 minutes. Timo Meier got the party started after he scored from the corner along the goal line--Markstrom definitely should have had this one. Alexander Barabanov tied the game off of a slot pass one-timer, one that likely enfuriated Darryl Sutter. If he was mad at this one, I don't even want to know what he was feeling 28-seconds later when Logan Couture scored the eventual Game-winning goal. Sutter was so mad, he wouldn't even take part in the post-game presser. And in typical Darryl Sutter fashion, he sent Jason LaBarbera--the team's goalie coach--to field questions. Makes sense, after your Vezina-calibre goalie lets in two softies. The Flames need to stay on course, only a week ago Sutter was on record stating the importance of finishing high in the standings so as to avoid a first-round matchup against the Colorado Avalanche, so they look to rebound Friday night against the lowly Arizona Coyotes.
