The trade deadline has come and gone and it's safe to say that Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes did a very good job at bringing in assets for players on expiring contracts.

What's next for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens front office? Signing top defence prospect, Jordan Harris.

During a question and answer session on Twitch, Hughes said that they're hopeful to sign Harris once his season in NCAA ends, which could be as early as this Friday (March 25th) or as late as April 9th.

"We've talked about what the opportunity would be in Montreal for him if he chooses to (sign). He's an impending free agent if he doesn't sign with us," Hughes said. "Our hope is that he does. We kind of laid out what we're trying to do with the organization, what our plan is, and how we see him fitting in."

Harris, 21, is in his fourth year in the NCAA with Northeastern University, where he plays with Kent Hughes' son, Jack, and fellow Montreal Canadiens prospect, Jayden Struble.

Hughes said that he's coached Jordan many times and his son, Jack, has played with and against Jordan since they were seven or eight years old. He's hoping that the connection between the two sides will work in their favour as they work towards an entry-level contract.

"Hopeful that there's a little bit of familiarity that works in our favor." Hughes said.

In 38 games so far this season with Northeastern, Harris has 20 points (five goals, fifteen assists), fourteen penalty minutes, and is a plus-eleven.

Harris and Northeastern will take on Western Michigan on Friday night in the semi-finals of the Northeast Region playoffs. The winner of the four regions will advance to the Frozen Four, which is set to be held April 7th-9th at TD Garden in Boston.
