Last night, Matt Duchene scored a highlight reel goal that drew national attention. Going between the legs tends to do that. What was not covered nationally, however, was the significance of the goal to the Nashville Predators' franchise. Naturally the Predators don't command a ton of media coverage, so it's within reason that the Curse of JP Dumont is largely unheard of. That doesn't make it any more fictitious. The fact is, no Predator forward has eclipsed the 65 point mark since Dumont did it in the 08-09 campaign. Duchene (34g 32a--66p) is the first to do so since then and is in the midst of his best season since 2018-19, which is surprising considering Nashville's anemic offense in recent years. Not to mention criticism of Head Coach John Hynes, who has preached a defense-first style of play some view to be a catalyst for poor offensive output. That said, Hynes did coach Taylor Hall to an MVP season with the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18. Duchene is having a bounce-back season and is a huge reason the Predators sit comfortably in the playoff picture. Well, that and the fact that Roman Josi is on pace for a million points this season. I wonder what Josi has to say about the Curse of JP Dumont...
