On Monday, the Montreal Canadiens dealt forward Artturi Lehkonen to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defence prospect Justin Barron, as well as a 2024 second round pick.

Barron, 20, made his National Hockey League debut on December 14th against the New York Rangers, and played in a second game, two days later, against Nashville. He's spent the majority of the 2021-22 season in the American Hockey League with the Colorado Eagles.

It sounds like the Halifax (Nova Scotia) native won't be going back to the American Hockey League according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports. Lavoie is reporting that Barron will fly to Montreal today and be at practice on Wednesday morning.

For those who aren't familiar with Barron, he's a former first round pick (25th overall in 2020), plays a strong two-way game and has the potential to be a top-four defenceman at the NHL level. He's currently in his first full professional season after spending four years with the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.
