One of the more perplexing deals of the 2022 trade deadline came on Sunday when it was announced that the Vancouver Canucks were sending Travis Hamonic to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a third-round pick in 2022.

This trade doesn't seem to add up to anyone given the fact the Senators are well outside of a playoff spot and would be better off playing their young prospects. Regardless of their reasoning for doing the deal, however, Canucks players won't care. Apparently, they are just happy to have him gone.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, multiple players reached out to him to say what a breath of fresh air it was for them with management choosing to move Hamonic. Former NHLer Marc Methot shared a similar sentiment as well, saying that all of the players he has talked to say 31-year-old defenceman is «a bit of a different bird».

Whether or not there will be further comments on this in the coming days remains to be seen, but generally, where there is smoke there is fire. It is highly unlikely that both Seravalli and Methot would bring this up if there wasn't at least some truth to it, making it an interesting situation to monitor moving forward in Ottawa.
