Artturi Lehkonen, who has been with the Montreal Canadiens since being drafted by the team in 2013, has a new home. The Habs have dealt the forward to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenceman Justin Barron and a 2nd round pick in 2024.

As part of the deal, Montreal retains 50 percent of Lehkonen's cap hit for this season. At the end of 2021-22, he is a restricted free agent.

Lehkonen has 13 goals and 29 points in 59 games this season and should prove to be a great depth addition to the Avs, who are looking for a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Barron, 20, in a former first-round pick (25th overall in 2020) who has lots of promise despite playing just two game in the NHL so far in his career. This is a deal that works well for both sides.
